I started off by printing my image on canvas paper and cutting it to remove the brickwork  portion, I wanted to replace that with a mixed media  effect using the playdoh.

I glued the canvas image to a large  black canvas,  offset to leave room for the chosen phrase…

And now for the fun part, I created a new wall effect with playdoh. Texture was created using an old crocheted hair band,,, but you can use anything similar to create texture. I used a small plastic ruler to recreate grout lines and straighten up the playdoh around the image frame.

Next came the 3D elements on the image itself.

You can use floral cutters if you prefer a more uniform look, but I wanted to follow the original design elements, so I made the flower and leaves by hand.

The flower was given texture using a plastic fork and the leaves using a small ruler for the veining.

A few strings of bark and stems, some blue water beads and 3D planter and vase complete the  playdoh elements of this project.

The brick work was colored using a mix of orange, brown and black ink pads.

Next I moved on to the image and colored it using my Chameleon pens.  This particular canvas paper has a satin coating, but not all brands do.

Finally, my favorite part.. deciding on the humor element of my project.  I like to let my images dictate the mood of the project…

I  contemplated a Covid theme.. we all know what quarantine has been like * sigh
I contemplated a “Home Sweet Home”

And then I hit on Romeo and Juliet.. well that started a conversation with my 9 year old about why communication is so important. And again later with a friend of mine about communication in relationships …. I love how art inspires conversation and topics that don’t usually arise.  This whole tragedy could have been avoided if Juliet had just whispered.. “Oi.. Romeo, I am gonna fake my death, don’t do nuthin’ stupid !”  But no…

So then we hit upon the issue of digging around in boxes with approx. 600 wooden letters to find  what we needed.  I say we because I had popped my back and  Li’l Man D kindly gave me a hand digging through the pile dumped all over my floor lol.

We were struggling to find a few of the necessary letters…and then it hit me…
