A crafters diet- guaranteed to shed the lbs and dollars

One of my friends loves to cook, she is a total foodie.  But the one thing we always disagree on

… is the best use for silicon cake and candy molds.  She was always coming over and getting excited when she sees my new molds..  till she realized I was NEVER ever going to buy a silicon mold for food lol.

Every mold I have… and I have a lot of them is used for  resin, plaster, soap or candles. Loving these gravestone cake molds from Michaels.   It needs a bit of extra support to keep the edges  straight .. but that’s not a big deal.  This one came out so cool.  It was just a mix of 2 part 1:1 resin, a small squirt of oil based paint and about 6 bottles of glass shards.

This was made using some old resin a friend had left over at my place, it was going discolored.. but when you mix the glasshards and inks and paint in.. you can’t tell. It’s a great way to use up old resin. It works just fine.. it just isn’t clear

It came out beautifully, and I just finished it up with some oil paint in the recessed design for some contrast.

I have witches hats, skeletons, boney fingers, bats, cats and potion bottles, brains, eyeballs, ghosts, crystal balls, skulls and  gravestones..in varying sizes and designs that I have picked up over the years.

These are great for classroom projects, one year I made 50 + pumpkins in plaster and took them in to Lil’ManD’s classroom with all of the paints so they could decorate them.

I bought a smaller version of these ghost molds a few years back, I had to grab these bigger ones… again from Michaels.  I usually do these with a glow in the dark powder mixed in to my resin and then add magnets to them.  This time they have a cool little glitter added too which reminded me of candy corn.

Baking and Candy molds are a great way to build up a selection of molds without breaking the bank.  All the craft stores carry them and they are always on sale for one holiday or another. Daiso, amazon, Ebay and even sometimes the thrift stores are another great place to pick up these molds.

Plastic molds work with plaster too and you can always make a silicon copy if you need to.

You can get so many cool designs..and it won’t go straight to your hips either.
