Angel no .. not me * grin

I absolutely love this “Fantasy Portrait Angel” image by Sakuems, a few weeks ago I was looking for some Angel images for a personal project and I ran across a few images that I really liked.  I wasn’t sure this one was really going to work with the  whole “Dark Angel” thing.. it’s a private joke with someone special…I always used to refer to myself as his Dark Angel.

I originally intended for this to be a very dark red and black style, but as usual my projects take on a life of their own and my Dark Angel seems to be showing her more vulnerable side… ah well..  lol

Anyways, as usual there is a mix of media on this project and it is printed on Canson Mix Media  paper with an Epson Ecotank.

I started off with a my usual H2o brush and shading, followed by “Wine Red” Clean Color pen by Zig for the feathers. For those of you who have been living under a rock.. these are water color pens that hit the scene a few years ago when I had my previous craft blog.  They were a huge hit with crafters and I picked up a few to try before  I had to quit crafting and blogging fore a while.

I only have a handful of these pens, but would love to get a full set at some point.

The red detailing on the outfit is done with a Gelly Roll Glaze pen which leaves a raised glossy 3D type effect.

You can’t really tell in the pictures, but the vines are actually done with a Gelly Roll Stardust pen too for a little glam.

Skin is the Zig Kurecolor #731 “Pale Beige”

I added in a touch of  Zig Clean Color “Persian Blue” to give the white a bluish tinge.. it’s just a personal preference of mine when leaving areas white.  Normally I will use my Chameleon BL3 pen for this, but I think it worked out well with the watercolors too.

I used YL2 and  OL3 Chameleons to do the gold elements on her jewelry.

I love how this turned out, even though it wasn’t my original intention or color scheme.  I was so worried about messing up my original when it came time to do the background… I chickened out and scanned and reprinted it before experimenting with the background.  You can tell the difference between the original and reprinted versions by how bold the colors are, but I actually like the muted tones too.  Since it is also reprinted on Canson Mixed Media, I could if I wanted to.. go back over it with my pens to pull the color  up ..but I like both versions.

The background is done with a  mix of Gansai Tambi blues and black.

I love the way these kind of images look on canvas and I use a regular canvas roll from the sewing dept. at Michaels which I trim down to size .. when I get it done I will add another post with more details on these canvas prints.

And just for a little pop trivia fun. For those of you who know how much I love my music and how it influences some of my projects… this project is associated  with another one of my favorite songs.. “Angel No” by Yello.

You may not recognize the name, or the faces, but I guarantee you  have heard their music on movies like “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” .. “Oh Yeah” is the ultimate beach body bikini babe song haha

If you or your significant other are race fans, you may have heard “The Race” by Yello on the sports channel a million times during events.
